‘An affinity, a balance’

The Alma collection brings together the work of Mimi Robson and James Midwinter. Their work focuses on similar themes and elements, despite their practices using different mediums and processes.

Both artists respond to moments and textures within nature, distilling them to their essence in order to construct something quietly visceral and moving. Concentrated, rich energy is captured in their mark making and held within a calming empty space.

Mimi’s calligraphic marks reflect upon the part of our consciousness that is attuned to subtle rhythms and dynamics observed in nature. The work, and her process, balances the energies of force and flow, to represent the flux within nature and our own Selves.

James' practice is both an exploration and a representation of his mindstate, driven by personal discoveries and self-learning through therapy. His compositions reflect his continual search for balance, between vibrant emotion, but also control and calm.
