Ensō Drawing
Practice a mindful approach to drawing.
Artist and Therapist Mimi Robson supports you to become present and deeply connected to your Self through the practice of drawing Ensō.
I will share my simple technique of Ensō drawing, which combines calligraphic brushwork and self-awareness. It develops your focus and sensitivity in your brushwork, cultivating skill, self-awareness and self-reflection.
Ensōs invite us to contemplate the whole cycle of experience and detach from judgements about where we find ourselves within it. Open Ensōs are incomplete, but allow for movement and development and a lingering appreciation of what is beautiful within the imperfect.
Hosted in my seaside studio, with only 3-4 participants, the session will be intimate and focused. The considered nature of the techniques and tranquil atmosphere of the studio makes for a day of calmness and creativity.
The day will begin moving into a steady and curious state of mind, which helps to liberate you from any sense of pressure to create something ‘perfect’. This makes our time a useful for balancing anxiety and stress.
Throughout the day we will practice methods of ink application and gesture with a variety of tools and techniques. Guided by Zen principles, the mark making will be practiced in alignment with your breath and stimulate a greater awareness of your body, movement and being.
You will have the time to refine what has been learnt and create an individual, intuitive body of work to take home with you. Throughout the day, attention will be focused on our mindful approach, instilling the session with a relaxing and contemplative atmosphere.
All materials are provided, and we will be working with a range of papers, brushes, and oil based inks.
