Sumi ink drawing on hosho paper.

This is a small ‘practice’ drawing, made in preparation for the installation displayed at Kudhva, North Cornwall. It is inspired by the rock formations of the North Coast.

The great granite rocks which speckle the North Cornwall coastline have always felt like reassuring companions to me. Rising from the sand and salty froth, they epitomise stillness and strength. Yet they are hardly static. They exist in a constant state of transformation, accepting of the waters which shape them. In our lifetime they are unmoving, but deep in our consciousness they remind us of the impermanence of all being. Within this change they are patient and enduring, hard and soft. Timeless.
